Word Press – Creating a new page

  1. Click on Pages
  2. Click on Add New
  3. Page Title – in the box at the top of the page, type the name of your page in.
Underneath, a line will appear that starts with the word Permalink. This will be the address of the page. You can alter the last portion of this page URL by clicking the Edit button (which is optional)
  4. In the WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor, type your text in. More details on how to use the WYSIWYG editor effectively will be covered in another tutorial
  5. Discussion – if you want to allow people to leave comments on your page or for other sites to pink you if they link to it, check the boxes, othewise ensure they are unchecked.
  6. Attributes - Parent
Main Page (no parent) means your page will be in the top level of the navigation. Drop this down to make your new page a ‘sub-page’ of a page that already exists. This new page won’t appear in the main navigation, but it will appear in a sub-menu/drop down menu on the site. This is useful for sites with a large number of pages.
  7. Attributes - Template
Different themes have different page templates and they are laid out differently. Leave this set as the Default Template for now, unless you have read a more in-depth tutorial and chosen something more specific.
  8. Attributes – Order
By placing a number in here, you can easily decide what order your pages will appear in the navigation.
  9. Publish – click the Publish button when you want your page to go live on your website.
