Word Press – inserting an image in to a post

Word Press allows you to insert images in to your posts. It does have the function to make your images smaller, but it’s always a good idea to start by using a small image to begin with. Don’t just grab a 3mb file off a camera, make it smaller in image editing software first.

Also remember, you can’t just steal images off other websites, it’s copyright infringement. Also, DO NOT HOTLINK to images from other people’s websites. It is considered poor form to grab the file location of an image from another site and just embed it in to your site. It steals the bandwidth off the other site owner and you have zero control over the image because it’s not hosted on your server.

  1. Click on the ADD AN IMAGE icon.
  2. From the Add an image popup box that now appears, make sure you’re on the FROM COMPUTER tab, and click on the SELECT FILES button.
  3. Find the image you want to insert on your computer, then click OPEN
  4. There are now several settings for the image you are able to set by hand before inserting it in to your post.
  5. Title – Give the photo a name. On some themes this will display on the site under the photo, but not for all.
  6. Alternative Text (optional) – the text that displays when someone hovers over the image
  7. Caption (optional) – a caption that can display on some themes but not for all.
  8. Description (optional) – a caption that can display on some themes but not for all.
  9. Link URL - When people click on the photo, you can have it so the image is linked to something.
Choose NONE if you don’t want the image to link to anything.
Choose FILE URL (the default) if you want the full-size version of the image to be linked (useful if choosing the Thumbnail size photo – read below)
Choose POST URL if you want the image to link to the article
Or you can put something completely different in there.
  10. Alignment – this works the same way as it does in Microsoft Word.
  11. Size – Thumbnail inserts a small version of the image in to your post. Medium, Large and Full size put larger versions in. The pixel size is listed under each one. Typically, the area you have for your post is probably somewhere between 500-800 pixels.
  12. Click INSERT INTO POST
