Word Press – uploading & linking to a file (PDF, Word)

Word Press allows you to upload files for people to download. Typically, you’ll have the link attached to words (ie: CLICK HERE to download this file).

Remember, your hosting space has a limited capacity & bandwidth, so don’t upload massive files that will be downloaded excessively. Also remember that if you upload a Microsoft Word file, only those who own Microsoft Word can open and read it at the other end. PDF files are a good alternative.

  1. Place the cursor where you want your file upload to go, then click on the ADD MEDIA icon.
  2. From the Add Media popup box that now appears, make sure you’re on the FROM COMPUTER tab, and click on the SELECT FILES button.
  3. Find the file you want to upload on your computer, then click OPEN. Note the maximum file size you can upload is 2mb
  4. There are now a couple of settings for the uploaded file you are able to set by hand before inserting it in to your post.
  5. Title – this will be the text that your file is linked from. ie: CLICK HERE.
  6. Caption (optional) – a caption that can display on some themes but not for all.
  7. Description (optional) – a caption that can display on some themes but not for all.
  8. Link URL - leave this alone. It’s already set to the File URL for the file you just uploaded.
  9. Click INSERT INTO POST
