backup tutorials

If you have any of the following content management systems installed on your website, you have what’s called a MySQL Database that’s running it. Think of it as a file that’s storing all the critical information to keep your site running.

  • Cube Cart
  • Coppermine Photo Gallery
  • Word Press
  • Any custom designed content management system

While regular backups are done at the hosting company, they do not ‘guarantee’ the integrity of the back ups. While Net Perceptions always have a reliable backup of your website, we do not do regular back ups of MySQL Databases.

If you have a site running a MySQL Database, like car insurance, it’s a good idea to back it up in case something goes wrong.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CPANEL version 11

  1. Log in to your hosting spaces Control Panel
    www.yourdomainname.com.au/cpanel
  2. Click on the Back Up icon in the Files area
  3. Under the heading Download a MySQL Database Backup, you will find a list of the databases installed on your site.
  4. Click on the database name that you wish to back up and save it on your computer as you would any other file. It’s a good idea to create a seperate folder somewhere on your computer to store these backups.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CPANEL version 10

  1. Log in to your hosting spaces Control Panel
    www.yourdomainname.com.au/cpanel
  2. Click on the Back Up Tools icon
  3. Under the heading Download a MySQL Database Backup, you will find a list of the databases installed on your site.
  4. Click on the database name that you wish to back up and save it on your computer as you would any other file. It’s a good idea to create a seperate folder somewhere on your computer to store these backups.

We recommend databases be backed up either monthly or whenever you make major changes to the stock in your online store/catalogue.

We don’t expect we’ll ever need to use these backups, but it’s ‘database insurance’ and everyone should have it!
