cube cart tutorials ~ add product

  1. Click on the Add Product link.
  2. Type a name for your product in the Product Name field.
  3. If you have a specific stock code for this item, place it in the Product/Stock no: field. If you don’t, leave it blank and the system will generate one for you.
  4. Type your Description in the field provided. The controls work like Microsoft Word, so you can bold, italic etc if you wish. You can also copy and paste from Microsoft Word. When do you this, all formatting from Microsoft Word (tables, colours, etc) stay in tact. So it might be a good idea to type everything up in Word first.
  5. Use the drop down box for the Category field and choose the category this item is going to live in. (You cannot create a new category here, it already has to exist).
  6. If you wish, you can display an image for your item (only one, sorry). If the file is on your computer, click the Upload New Image button. Click the Browse button, find the file on your computer and click Upload Image. The system will create the large and the small version for you, but the file must be less than 2mb in size. If it’s over, you need an image editing program to shrink it down first (like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro). It is also a good idea to name the file something that means something to you FIRST. We recommend that before you start adding stock, you create a folder on your computer and put all the photos in there that you will add. Give them all file names that mean something to you “widget01.jpg” so you can find it (and delete it) later if you need to.
  7. If the image you wish to use for this item is already in your shopping cart’s database, click the Browse Existing Images button. You will now be presented with a list of the images already available on the server, the file names on the left (which is why you should give them sensible names on your computer first), and previews on the right hand side. Choose your image and click OK.
  8. Type in the Normal Price. Include GST as the shopping cart is not set up to calculate it for you. (We can, but it gets messy - just include the GST in your prices)
  9. Sale price is for when/if you turn your shop in sale mode. If you don’t ever intend to do this, leave it blank. If you do, put in a sale price for your item.
  10. Product Weight can be left blank unless you’re doing online ordering & shipping where the weight determines the shipping price (which I’m guessing you’re not).
  11. Stock Level is used to show how many items you have in stock. I recommend you don’t use stock levels, otherwise it’s a full-time job keeping the data up to date. Leave it empty.
  12. Use Stock Level. The default should be set to No. If it isn’t, make sure you click the No button.
  13. Product Type, leave as tangible. The other option is only used if you’re selling downloadable files from the server.
  14. Include in latest products on the homepage. Your site may or may not have a latest products section on the body of the shopping cart’s main page. Choose yes or no for this item to be randomly displayed here.
  15. Click the Add Product button, and presto you’re done. Now repeat several hundred times to fill your shop.
