dada ~ send a webpage as a mailing list message
If there’s a page on your website, a newsletter, something of special interest that you would like to send out to your list members, it’s very simple. It saves all the typing and all the images that appear on your website get sent out in the message, so it looks nice!
- Log in to the Dada Mailing List program.
- Underneath the Send A List Message link near the top, there’s another one called Send A Webpage. Click this one.
- Type a suitable subject in the Subject field.
- Open up your favourite browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox etc) and open up the page you wish to send. Right click and copy the address (including the http so it should look like this - http://www.webpage.com.au/pagename.htm). Go back to Dada Mail and paste this address in the box marked Grab Content from this webpage address (URL). Make sure the little radio button is clicked next to this (it will be by default)
- Next is a section called Plain Text Version. Be sure to read this carefully. A lot of people detest being sent mail outs with images attached, and accordingly, run software that will block email messages with image attachments. They can be known to carry viruses and chew up a lot of bandwidth (yours will not have viruses attached btw).
In this case, you need to provide the end user with something they can actually read. The best option is usually to leave the radio button checked for Create A Plain Text Version Automatically, but this will also add any text navigation and may end up looking a little silly if it’s a complete website, navigation, contact details and all.
Your other option is to create your own plain text version by using the option underneath. Click the radio button next to Use the text below as the plain text version and start typing or ‘copying and pasting’ away.
- When sending a message, it is always an excellent idea to sent a test copy first, which will be sent to the list owner, which should be you. If you don’t get this test copy, contact Net Perceptions and we’ll fix that right up for you.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Place a tick in the I’m Sure box then click the Submit Test Message button. Check your email, make sure the test message came through and that you’re happy with it.
- Once your test message is fine, go back to the screen where you were and click the Submit Mailing List Message button, making sure the I’m Sure checkbox is still ticked.
We’re not quite done. We want to make 100% sure everything went through. So as not to slow down the server, mailing messages are sent in batches (I usually set it up as 50 messages per minute). You will be sent an email each time a batch is delivered, and another email when the entire mail out is complete. DO NOT CLOSE THE DADA MAILING LIST WINDOW UNTIL YOU RECEIVE THIS MESSAGE. If you do, there’s a good chance your mail out will stop.
