x-cart ~ add a product
After you have created your categories (which you must do first), you can start adding stock to your online store. Please make sure you have created your images (a small thumbnail and a larger version of your image) before you begin. This must be done seperately in an image editing program such as Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Photoshop Elements or something similar.
- In the Products section of the menu, click on Add New Product
- Under the Product Thumbnail heading you can upload two images - a thumbnail (small version of your image) and a larger version.
SMALL IMAGE - So things don't get thrown out of alignment, your thumbnail should be 150 pixels. (The software will resize your image to 150 pixels wide regardless of what size it is, but for quick loading, please make a seperate thumbnail image. Also, if the image is smaller than 150 pixels, the software will stretch the photo and it will look bad.) LARGE IMAGE - The larger version should be no wider than around 500 pixels if you're happy for the description and the buy button to be underneath (so you have nice big images). If you are going to write short descriptions and you want the photo on the left and the description/buy button on the right, your large images should be no wider than approx. 300px. Please do one as a test and ask us if you have any questions before you create all your images.
Click on the Change Image button for each of these to upload the images.
- Classification
Main Category - choose the main category for your product from the drop down box.
Your product can be listed in more than one category if you like, so if you'd like it in more than one category, select from the Additional Categories available. Hold down the Control key to select more than one.
Manufacturer will stay at the default 'manufacturer is not specified' if none have been set up If manufacturers have been set up, please choose the manufacturer from the drop down box provided.
Availability change to Available for Sale. As you can see, you can disable items or hide them, but still leave them in the database for later use.
- Details
SKU is your product number. You can either put in your own product/stock code, or if you don't mind, let the system generate them for you.
Product Name - type the name of your product in here. Be aware that people will also use the search function to find items in your store, so be wordy if you think it will help.
Search Keywords - again, for the search feature of the site, put in key words that people may search to find this product.
Short Description - add a short descsription here. This will be seen on category pages (depending on how we lay it out for you). It will also appear during the checkout process. The default editor is text only, the WYSIWYG editor (what you see is what you get) works like Microsoft Word.
Detailed Description - add a longer description here. This will be seen when people view the actual product on its own page.
The default editor is text only, the WYSIWYG editor (what you see is what you get) works like Microsoft Word.
Price - Put the price in Australian Dollars, including GST.
List Price - this is used to show the RRP of a product. ie: if the RRP is $50 but you're selling it for $40, put $40 in as the price and $50 in as the list price. This will then display as "Market Price $50 - save 20%". If you don't wish to use the List Price feature, leave it set at 0.00
Quantity In Stock - put in the number of items available for sale if you're tracking stock on the site. If you're not, we will have already turned the tracking stock control OFF on your site and it won't matter what you put in this field.
Low Limit In Stock - if you're tracking stock, once the store reaches this level of stock, you will receive an email telling you to order more stock.
Min order quantity - if you want to make people purchase more than one, set the number accordingly.
Weight - if you're using weight as a part of your shipping calculations, include it here.
If you're using the Australia Post shipping calculator, you will need to weigh your products. Include the weight to 2 decimal places (ie: 1.50) and don't put the kg on the end.
Note: As stated inside the software, all weights are KG. A product that weighs 1/2 kilo (which is 500grams) is 0.50, not 500. Australia Post has a 20kg limit on parcels, so if the weights are wrong, no-one will be able to order.
Membership - leave this set at ALL unless we tell you otherwise
Tax Exempt - leave it at no. Please make sure GST is included in all prices.
Free Shipping - your choice, if this item ships free, say yes. If not, say no and shipping will be calculated.
Shipping Freight - please ask Joanne about this one. It's different for each client.
Apply Global Discounts - you can choose to put a global discount on your store (ie: 20% off sale) but it doesn't have to apply to everything in store. If you want this product included in a global sale, leave a tick in the box. If you don't want it included in a global sale, take the tick out.
