x-cart ~ add a sub-category
Before you can add stock to your store, you need to set up the categories that your stock will live in. You can have as many categories as you like and each category can have as many sub-categories as you like:
(ie: Clothing > Mens > T-Shirts). This tutorial shows you how to create the sub-categories. Make sure you have created all your main categories first.
- Under the Management section of your stores admin, click on Categories
- You will now see a list of the main Categories that you have already created. Click on the main Category name that you want your new sub-category to live under. To create sub-category under sub-category etc etc, keep repeating this step until you get to your destination.
ie: File structure Clothing > Mens > T-shirts, click on the main category name Clothing. Then click on the sub-category name Mens, then click on the Add New button (step 3) to create your T-shirts sub-sub-category.
- In the top box called Categories, click on the Add New button
- Category Icon - click the change image button to upload an image for your category (optional). Please keep images no larger than 50 x 50 pixels.
Position - choose how high up the list you want your category listed, type in a number (optional). Rather than typing in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 .... leave gaps so you can slot in new categories later - 10, 20, 30, 40 ...
Category - name your category in this field (required)
Description - add a longer description for your category. Be as thorough as you can be, include lots of key words. This will appear at the very top of the page for your category. Either type in plain text using the 'default editor' or click on the ' WYSIWYG editor' to work like you would in HTML. Visit the WYSIWYG tutorial for more information.
Membership - leave this at the default setting of All unless otherwise instructed
Availability - Leave this set as Enabled. Later on, you have the ability to disable a category while leaving all the information in your database to be used at a later date.
META Keywords - this is for the benefit of search engines. Type in key words that are appropriate for this category.
META Description - this is for the benefit of search engines. Type in a short description that is appropriate for this category. It can be the same as the description above. Be sure it has a few of your key words in it.
- Click the SAVE button when all information is complete.
