x-cart ~ discount vouchers / coupons
It's possible to create 'discount coupons' to give people a discount in your online store when they enter a certain code. Ideal for target advertising in magazines, online advertising, email newsletters and more.
- In the Inventory section of the admin navigation, click on Coupons
- Coupon Code - type in what you want the code to be. Be cute and creative if it's appropriate. I once had one sent to me that said IAMSPECIAL.
- Coupon Type - choose from % off, $ off or Free Shipping
- Discount - if you chose % off or $ off, enter the amount you want the discount to be
- Times To Use - you can limit the amount of times this voucher gets used. If your voucher is for 'the first 50 purchasers', then put 50 in there. If you want unlimited customers to be able to use it, tick the Per Customer box and choose a number for uses 'per customer'. ie: if each customer can only use the discount once, place a 1 in the box, and a tick in front of per customer.
Note: if you place a tick in the 'per customer' box, people have to be logged in to claim the discount. To let anyone use the discount, leave this section totally blank.
- Status - set to active or disabled
- Expires - you can set an expiry date so the coupon will automatically expire.
- Apply discount if - this section has different variables for what the discount is applied to.
Order subtotal equals or exceeds the amount of... - use this to choose to apply a discount to orders of a certain total. ie: 50% discount for all orders over $150, you'd put 150.00 in here. If you want to apply the discount to all orders of any value, leave 0.00 in there
Cart contains the product... - this is used to give the discount just off one product only. Click the Browse button to search for your product.
Cart contains products from the category... - use this to apply the discount to everything in a certain category. ie: 25% off all handbags. Tick the sub-category box if you want all the sub-categories included as well.
- How to apply the discount - read through the options and choose what's appropriate
- Click Add Coupon
