x-cart ~ gift certificates

People can purchase a gift certificate through the store, but you can also create them manually for promotional purposes or as a way of giving store credit for a return.

When a gift certificate is purchased (or created manually), it is held in limbo in the x-cart software until you log in and activate it. Reason being, someone can place an order through your store, and half way through the Payment process, pull out. When this happens, you don't want them getting the gift certicate for free. This gives you time to match up the order and the payment and activate the gift certificate.

Manually create a Gift Certificate

  1. Click on Gift Vouchers in the Management section
  2. Click Add New
  3. From: type in the name of the person who is sending the voucher
  4. To: type in the name of the person you are sending the voucher to
  5. Message: type in a message (like you would write inside a greeting card)
  6. AUD: type an amount for voucher AUD=Australian Dollars
  7. Email: type in the persons email address that you're sending the voucher to.
  8. Click Create Gift Certificate. You now need to go and change the status of the Gift Certificate

Change the status of a Gift Certificate

  1. Click on Gift Vouchers in the Management section
  2. You will now see a list of Gift Certificates. In the Status column, change the Gift Certificate in question from Pending to Active. It is at this point that the Gift Certificate will be emailed to the customer.
