x-cart ~ list products by manufacturer
In addition to product categories, you can categorise your products by manufacturers. To do so, you need to create the necessary manufacturers and specify a manufacturer for each of your products. This section allows you to create and manage manufacturers. After the necessary manufacturers are created, you will be able to assign them to products using the Manufacturer field of the Product details form. (this paragraph is taken word for word from within the x-cart software) .
Another use for manufacturers would be wine vintage (if you happen to be selling wine). Create each year as a manufacturer, so people can select the wine by vintage.
- To create your manufacturers, click on the Manufacturers link in the Management section of the navigation
- Click on the Add New ... button to add a new manufacturer
- Fill in the following details:
Manufacturers - type in the name of the manufacturer (ie: IBM)
Logo - if you wish to specify a logo, click the Change Image button to upload your logo (please resize it first and save for web as per the image tutorials)
Descsription - type a longer description in here. If you want something fancy with images and formatted text, we can do it in HTML for you.
URL - if you would like to link to the manufacturers website, put it in here (copy and paste it from a web browser and include the http:// at the front). This is optional. If the manufacturer sells direct to the public, I strongly recommend you don't do this.
Order By - the manufacturers are listed in the order you want them to be in. Enter 1 for the manufacturer you want listed first, 2 for the 2nd one etc. Leave gaps in the numbers just incase you want to slot a new one in later on.
Availability - leave this ticked. Later on, you have the ability to disable the manufacturer by removing the tick from the box.
- Click Save to finish.
