x-cart ~ create news/mailing list group
X-Cart has a news / mailing list feature that allows you to add news items to your website and/or email these news items out to a list of subscribers. This tutorial shows you how to create the news group / mailing list. You may create more than one if you think it's suitable.
There's a good chance that we will have done this step for you as a part of the initial x-cart set up. This tutorial is here for future reference or if you'd like to set it up for yourself.
- Click on News Management under the Management section of the navigation
- Click Add New to create a new news group / mailing list
- Short Name - type in a short description of your mailing list - ie: News Updates, Monthly Newsletter etc
- List Description - type in a sentence or two explaining what the list will be for - ie: Join to receive a monthly newsletter on all that's going on in our business.
- Active - yes means it's active on the website, no means it's not available, but the information will still be stored in the database for activation at a later date.
- Available for subscription - yes means that people can join up using their email address to receive information via email, no means people can't get the information sent via email
- Show messages in site news - yes means your newsletters can be added to the website as news items, no means they won't be. Note: if you choose yes, when you send out messages, you can change this setting to no if you want to.
- Click Save
