x-cart ~ altering the payment methods
This tutorial is written specifically for those who use a Merchant Account as their Payment Gateway and PayPal as a back-up and who need to temporarily push the Merchant Account to the bottom of the list because it's not working and push PayPal to the top of the list.
It's rare that the merchant acocunts are unavailable, but when it happens (and when it happens the week before Christmas, which is why this tutorial was written), it can cause a huge amount of hassle in failed orders.
If you think the Payment Gateway/Merchant Account is down, here's what you do.
a) Follow the tutorial below & switch the methods around so you don't lose any orders. Do this immediately.
b) If in doubt, try to place a real order on your site, make note of any error messages
c) Email/ring me so I can speak to Net Registry and get it resolved.
- Click on Payment Methods in the Admin section of x-cart.
- You will now see all available payment methods. Only those with a tick are active.
- PUSH THE MERCHANT ACCOUNT TO THE BOTTOM
a) Find the one that says Visa /Mastercard (or whatever we called it). It will have information at the bottom of it that says 'Credit Card Processor: Net Registry e-commerce.'
b) Where the description is (Visa / Mastercard) just add something in that says "temporarily unavailable" or something similar.
c) On the far right hand side, there's a number. This determines how high up the list this method is. Put 999 in here so it's last on the list.
d) Click UPDATE
- PROMOTE PAYPAL TO THE TOP OF THE LIST
a) Find the one that says PayPal. The information at the bottom will say 'Payment systems PayPal'
b) Where the description is (PayPal), change it to say PayPal, Visa, Mastercard.
c) On the far right hand side, there is a number. This determines how high up the list this method is. Put 1 in here so it's at the top of the list.
d) Click UPDATE
When the merchant account is working again, revert these back to the way they were.
