x-cart ~ search for a product

x-cart has a great search facility for finding products.

1. Click on the Search for Products in the Products section of the navigation
2. You will see there are a large range of different options you can search on.
3. Search in Category - choose this option to get a list of all products in a particular category.
   Tick the Main category box if you want products listed that have your chosen category listed as a main category
   Tick the Additional category box if you want products listed that have your chosen category listed as an additional category
   Tick the also search in subcategories box if you want to search in the subcategories
4. Search for Pattern - type in a word or a string of words for the basis of your search
   All words - will bring up products that have all the words in your search string listed but they don't have to be in the correct order
   Any word - will bring up products with any of the words you have listed
   Exact phrase - will match your phrase exactly
   Search In - tick any or all of the boxes (Product Title, Short Description, Detailed Description, Search Keywords) to show where in the product information you want to search
5. Click Search for a list of results
   

advanced search options

As well as the basic search functions above, there are a lot of other things that can be searched on.

1. Click on the Search for Products in the Products section of the navigation (if you're not already in there)
2. Use the filters in the above tutorial if you want to narrow your search by category or keyword/phrase
3. Click on the Advanced Search options link to expand your list of options (if they are not visible already). Note: you can choose any or all of these next search options.
4. Manufacturers - choose one or more options here (by holding the Control Key down on your keyboard)
5. SKU - to search by product code/part number (only useful if you gave your products meaningful code names when you entered the stock)
6. Product ID# - if you entered a product ID, you can search on it here
7. Price - put in a lower & an upper limit and all products within this price range will be displayed
8. Quantity - if you're keeping stock levels, put in a lower & an upper limit to find products with a certain stock level
9. Weight - if your products have weight listed, put in a lower & an upper limit (in kg)
10. Availability - use the drop down box to search for products that are either a) Available for sale, b) Hidden, but available for sale, or c) Hidden
11. Additional options - choose products who have the various features listed set to either Assigned or Not Assigned by choosing the relevant option from the drop down boxes.
12. Click Search for a list of results
