x-cart ~ adding static pages (pages not selling products)

There are many reasons to add a static page to your website. Any page that you want to display information that's NOT selling a product is called a static page. You may have a size chart, a shipping options page etc etc. You name it, you can add it on a static page. Note: there are already static pages set up for Contact Us, Privacy Statement and Terms & Conditions. Read the relevant tutorials on how to edit those pages.

  1. Click on the Static Pages link in the Administration section of the shop's admin navigation.
  2. In the Embedded level section, click on the Add New button.
  3. Page File - put a name for your page in the box, no spaces, must end with .html as the sample will show. (If you're doing a size chart, call the page sizechart.html
  4. Page Name - this is what the page will be called in the navigation. If all your categories were created with upper & lower case, keep the same theme going here. If all your categories were created in UPPERCASE, keep the same theme going.
  5. Page Content - type in the information for the page in this large box. Use the WYSIWYG editor for formatted text or copy & paste from Microsoft Word. If necessary, Net Perceptions can custom design this section for you (standard hourly rates apply)
  6. Status - set to enabled if you want people to be able to view the page, disabled to hide the page from view (you can always turn it back on later)
  7. Position - enter a number to display what order you want the static page/s displayed in (like you did for the categories.). Either 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc or leave gaps if you think you'll want to slot in extra pages later on, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50
  8. Click Save

The default settings for the software is to place these static pages in the HELP section of the navigation. If you would like them placed somewhere else (either as an alternative location, or add them somewhere else on the website as well), please let us know so we can customise the location for you.
